Popular Field of Education and Average Incomes
According to a report by Statistics South Africa (2016 data), the most popular field of study in the country was education. Around 503,096 graduates have completed their study in education, followed by 439,719 graduates in Business and Economics. The next popular field of study was Health (221,121 students), followed by Engineering (219,007 students).
In terms of average income, South Africa is witnessing an increase in the average monthly gross wage. In the fourth quarter of 2016, the average wage per month was 18502 ZAR as compared to 18104 ZAR in the third quarter of 2016 . This signifies that the average wages will continue to show an upward trend, thus attracting a greater number of international students.
